A dog-friendly day on the coast: what to bring
A day on the coast with a dog is one of the simple pleasures, and a little planning keeps it that way. Many beaches have seasonal dog restrictions in summer, so check the beach before you go, and keep dogs on a lead near cliffs and livestock.
Water and food
Dogs cannot drink seawater, so carry fresh water and a collapsible bowl, and give them shade at the hottest part of the day. A few treats help with recall on an open beach.

Comfort and the drive home
A towel or drying coat stops sand and seawater ending up all over the car, and a bed or blanket gives them somewhere familiar to settle after a long walk.

Safety and identification
In the UK a dog in a public place must wear a collar with a tag showing the owner's name and address. A bright bandana or harness helps you spot them on a busy beach.
